One of my biggest issues is getting students to not only add detail in writing but also to see a puspose behind giving more details. This lesson show the value of adding detail to your writing by comparing it to something a lot of people enjoy dreaming about: decorating. When I was a kid I imagined jungle themed rooms and when I was a teen I wanted all the mood lighting and high end furniture. Just like an bare room isn't functional or interesting, neither a bare writing passage.
